Camtasia Studio: A Love/Hate Relationship
April 15, 2010I have used Camtasia Studio for years and I’ve always enjoyed its ease of use for screencasting. You press record and away you go. Nothing could be simpler. I’ve used it to record tutorials, sample telephone calls and even to troubleshoot network issues…but after last night, I’ve definitely got to rethink my relationship with this software.
Wait…did I just say I have a relationship with software? Maybe I do spend way to much time in front of the computer…anyway, it’s true. I have a love/hate relationship with Camtasia. It’s ease of use makes it hard not to love…but rendering the videos you create is a serious pain in the backside!!
I never realized it until late last night when the training videos I created took 4+ hours to render…and, then, just when it was about ready to be done…a popup box shows up and says ‘Camtasia Studio encountered a problem…’ How does that work?? Why couldn’t it have encountered a problem 4 hours before that?? Like I said, it’s a love/hate thing we have going on…
So, the videos are rendering, yet again, this morning while I finish up some instructional design work. My fingers are crossed that it’ll work out better than last night…but, if not, I might just have to make switch to a better screen capture tool. Not quite sure what’s out there, but anything better than 4 hours to render a 1 hour video is definitely a step in the right direction…
